The Mangoes I Saw Today

Today I went up the Stratford Road to see what was there in terms of the fruit and of course, mangoes especially. Watermelons seem to have just arrived but I think it is still to early and they won’t yet be sweet enough. There have been a type of mango fairly new to these parts called Badami mangoes. They are quite large and a beautiful orange colour with a few ‘freckles’ and they have a great scent. Pakistani Honey mangoes are out as well and these looked good too, as always. I resisted buying these today as wanted to go to my usual place on Showell Green Lane to see what they had. They had 3 types today. Badami, Kesar and Alphonso. I was tempted with the Badami and the Kesar but I needed my mango fix to be just right and wasn’t in the mood to experiment or potentially be disappointed so I went for a box of a dozen delectable Alphonsos again, more often than not, my first choice. These will be out of season soon so may I suggest you get them now if you are going to. One out of the dozen is perfectly ripe and I have placed it in the fridge to be enjoyed at breakfast. The others are stored in their box, in the kitchen where they will slowly ripen to perfection over the next few days (if we can wait that long!).

It seems that this blog has excied quite a few of my friends. More and more people are coming out and declaring their love of mangoes to me. I look forward to hearing more…
